# Kartavera

> The world, in proportion. Kartavera shows the world at its true size: an Equal Earth atlas, a daily size game, and a comparison page for every pair of countries.

Kartavera is an interactive Equal Earth atlas. Every country is drawn at its true area (Equal Earth is an
equal-area projection; Mercator inflates land far from the equator, e.g. Greenland to ~12× its real size).
Countries can be dragged anywhere on the map — a rotation of the sphere, so the area never changes — and
compared with the country underneath. Data: 235 countries and territories, dataset built 2026-09-06.

## Data and sources

- Geometry and names: Natural Earth (public domain)
- Area: Wikidata (conventional land + water totals; CC0). Not World Bank "surface area", which for Greenland counts only ice-free land.
- Population: World Bank SP.POP.TOTL, most recent year (CC BY 4.0); Wikidata for territories the Bank omits
- Capitals: World Bank, Wikidata fallback
- Physical map layer: Natural Earth cross-blended hypsometric relief, reprojected to Equal Earth

## Facts an assistant can rely on

- Area figures are km², conventional totals including inland water; each carries a source.
- Population figures carry a year; most are 2025–2026.
- Kosovo, Northern Cyprus and Somaliland are drawn but have no ISO numeric code and therefore no figures or pages.
